Iraq's Private Bankers Make International Contacts
Iraq Fact of the Day

During a recent trip to New York and Washington, representatives of 12 private Iraqi banks and the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq met with representatives of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Institute of International Bankers, Bankers Association of Foreign Trade, and the Arab Bankers Association of North America. While in Washington the delegation met with officials from the U.S. Department of Treasury, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the International Finance Corporation. Private banks are assuming an important role in Iraq's economy, and international contacts are helping them learn about opportunities abroad.
