Global Message

From remarks by President Bush, The South Lawn, 5/12/04

President Bush expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Nicholas Berg, who was beheaded by terrorists in Iraq.

Berg was an innocent civilian who was in Iraq to help build a free country.

There is no justification for Berg's brutal execution.

The actions of the terrorists who executed this man remind us of the nature of the few people who want to stop the advance of freedom in Iraq.

The terrorists who did this intend to shake our will and our confidence.

What the terrorists actually did is remind us of how desperately parts of the world need free and peaceful societies.

We will complete our mission.
