Iraqis continue to make progress toward a democratic government.The Iraqi Governing Council has established an electoral committee to work with the United Nations on plans for national elections in January 2005.These experts have traveled across the country to consult with Iraqi citizens on the electoral process.After decades of repression under Saddam Hussein's regime, Iraqis are eager to participate in a free and open political system.
