President Bush Congratulates President Bouteflika on Re-Election
Statement by the Press Secretary

The President congratulates President Bouteflika on his re-election. These elections represent another step on the road toward democracy in Algeria. The President also congratulates the Algerian people for their dedication to building a democratic political system.

The United States looks forward to continuing to work with President Bouteflika on the many matters of common interest between Algeria and the United States, including resolution of disputes in the North African region, the fight against terrorism, and needed political and economic reforms under way in Algeria.
