Because one year ago today the armed forces of the United States and our allies entered Iraq to end the regime of Saddam Hussein:

One of the most evil, brutal regimes in history is gone forever.

A state sponsor of terror is out of business.

An aggressive threat to the security of the Middle East and the peace of the world is gone.

It is clear that we keep our word. By speaking clearly and consistently, and by meaning what we say, it is more likely the world will be more peaceful.

Democracy is rising in the heart of the Middle East.

Iraq has a new interim law that guarantees basic rights for all: freedom of religion, the right to cast a secret ballot, and equality under the law.

These historic democratic changes are sending a message across the region from Damascus to Tehran: Freedom is the future of every nation.

The Iraqi people are achieving great things and sacrificing for their own future. They're building a country that is strong and free.

The war on terror continues. Terrorists are fighting desperately top undermine Iraq's progress toward freedom.

They know the rise of democracy in the Middle East will mean the end of their appeal and influence.

They hate and target a free Iraq and every country that stands for democracy, tolerance, and freedom. They kill the innocent without conscience or mercy.
