From remarks by President Bush and United Nations Secretary General Annan, 2/3/04

President Bush and United Nations Secretary General Annan discussed ways to ensure that the Iraqi people are free, that their country is stable and prosperous and that it becomes an example of democracy in the Middle East.

A United Nations team will help the Iraqis establish a government to assure the political and economic destiny of the Iraqi people. The United Nations team will talk to as many Iraqis as possible and help them steer in the right direction.

The world is changing for the better and the United Nations is playing a vital role in that change.

There is much work to do, and the United Nations should play a vital and important role.

The United Nations and the United States will work closely to build on past successes they have had around the world.
