The Mosul Town Hall Meeting
Iraq Fact of the Day

Iraqis took an important step January 12 toward establishing democracy in their country. Some 220 people gathered in Mosul for the first of 18 town hall meetings. Academics, members of the Iraqi Governing Council and regional spent 2 ½ hours discussing the transitional political process and federalism. The discussion was spirited at times, but the panelists and audience agreed on a central point: democracy is the only acceptable option for Iraq.
