KEY POINTS

Update on the Liberation of Iraq

  • We are very pleased with the progress of Coalition forces in Iraq, but much of the toughest work is still to come. Saddam Hussein's regime is doomed. Iraqis should not fight for a dying regime that is not worth their lives.

  • Something better for all Iraqis lies ahead, and we urge Iraqis to work constructively for the future of their country.

  • Coalition forces continue to work hard to avoid civilian casualties and protect religious, cultural and historical sites.

    Post-Saddam Iraq

  • Just as we've planned for military victory, we're planning to win the peace. The Coalition is committed to helping Iraqis create a broad-based, representative government, based on democratic principles, that serves their interests and is worthy of their hopes.

  • For the first time in more than two decades the Iraqi people will truly benefit from their nation's resources and the fruits of their own labor.

    President Bush's Trip to the United Kingdom

  • President Bush and British Prime Minister Blair will discuss the progress in the war in Iraq, the status of the ongoing military operation, and the humanitarian relief efforts.

  • They will also discuss the planning to help Iraqis build a post-war Iraq that is whole, free, and at peace within itself and with its neighbors.

  • They will discuss the role of the United Nations and other international organizations.

  • The President and the Prime Minister will also talk about the peace process in Northern Ireland, and discuss efforts to bring peace to the Middle East.
