President Calls for Strengthened and Reformed Medicare Program
President George W. Bush addresses the audience at Devos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids, Mich., Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003. "I urged the Congress last night to put aside all the politics and to make sure the Medicare system fulfills its promise to our seniors," President Bush said. "I believe that seniors, if they're happy with the current Medicare system, should stay on the current Medicare system. That makes sense. If you like the way things are, you shouldn't change. However, Medicare must be more flexible. Medicare must include prescription drugs." White House photo by Tina Hager
