President Calls for Strong Work Requirements in Welfare Reform
President George W. Bush discusses welfare reform during a trip to Chicago, Ill., Monday, May 13. "It is essential that a central component of that bill be work," said the President. "We must set high standards. Over the next five years, the states, and working with the local governments, ought to place 70 percent of the people into a job." White House photo by Paul Morse.
