President Bush To Nominate Kincannon to be the Director of the Census at the Department of Commerce

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate Louis Kincannon to be the Director of the Census at the Department of Commerce. He has been working as a statistics consultant since June 2000 when he left his position as the Chief Statistician for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris, France, where he had served since 1992. From 1982 to 1992, Kincannon was Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Census Bureau, serving as acting director from July 1983 to March 1984 and again from January to December 1989. In 1975, he joined the Office of Management and Budget where he was a member of the original staff of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. From 1963 to 1974, he served at the Census Bureau in a variety of positions including the Chief of the Program Review Staff for the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Originally from Texas, he is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.
