Dennis Clarke Shea -- Department of Housing and Urban Development
Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research (PD&R)

Prior to joining HUD, Mr. Shea served as Executive Director of the President’s Commission on the United States Postal Service. The Commission’s report, which recommended a comprehensive approach to preserving universal mail service, has been the subject of extensive hearings before Congress. Prior to his work with the Commission, Mr. Shea was employed as a Director at BKSH & Associates, a government relations firm. Mr. Shea also served as counsel to Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand and was a consultant to the Project on the Independent Counsel Statute, a joint effort of the American Enterprise Institute and The Brookings Institution. Mr. Shea has extensive experience on Capitol Hill, having served as counsel and then Deputy Chief of Staff to Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole. He began his career in Washington, DC as an associate at the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom working in the corporate practice area. In 1992, Mr. Shea was the Republican and Conservative Party candidate for Congress from New York’s 7th Congressional District. Mr. Shea holds three degrees from Harvard University: a Bachelor’s degree in Government, a Master’s degree in American History, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. A native of Forest Hills, New York, Mr. Shea now resides in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife Elizabeth and daughter Juliette.
