Gwendolyn Brown -- NASA
Chief Financial Officer of NASA

Prior to coming to NASA, Ms. Brown was a senior Program Analyst with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller), Directorate for Program and Financial Control at the Pentagon. She was instrumental in instituting streamlined financial reporting requirements and developing electronic financial management reports which significantly reduced the amount of paper work that flowed from the Department of Defense to the Department of Treasury and the Office of Management and Budget. Ms. Brown started her public service career in 1987 as an auditor for the Defense Contract Audit Agency in Silver Springs, Maryland. She later joined Senator Ted Stevens' staff as a legislative correspondent and served for over five years on the Senator's personal staff. She was instrumental in coordinating activities related to protecting the state's vital fisheries industry during the oil spill in Valdez, Alaska. After serving on the United States Senate staff, Ms. Brown began her Defense Department career as a Management Analyst in 1992, where she helped plan, develop and institute modem business and accounting initiatives. These accounting initiatives helped the Department of Defense better identify and control costs related to its operations and provided a means to hold financial managers accountable for the expenditure of federal resources. Ms. Brown has a bachelor's degree in Accounting from The Catholic University of America and a master's degree in Public Administration from The American University.
