After graduating from Texas A&M University and Baylor Law School, Cindy Dyer joined the Dallas County District Attorneys Office in 1993. She was the first prosecutor to join the Family Violence Division during its inception in 1994 and became the Chief Prosecutor of that division in 1998. On August 2, 2007, Ms. Dyer was nominated by President George W. Bush to be the Director of the Office on Violence Against Women and confirmed by the United States Senate on December 19, 2007.
Cindy has been highly solicited as a national speaker on the topic of family violence and sexual assault and has spoken at hundreds of conferences and seminars across the country including the National College of District Attorneys, the American Prosecutors Research Institute, the National District Attorneys Association, the National Conference on Crimes Against Women, the National Crimes Against Children Conference, and numerous television and radio programs.
Cindy has received numerous awards and recognition for her service to victims. In 1997, the Texas Council on Family Violence presented her with their Local Achievement Award. In 1999, the Greater Dallas Crime Commission awarded her as The Henry Wade Prosecutor of the Year. In 2000 Genesis Womens Shelter presented her with the Jane Doe Award. In 2001, Legal Services of North West Texas presented her with the Equal Justice Award. In 2003, she received the Stephen Von Riesen Lecturer of Merit Award from the National College of District Attorneys. In 2007, she was named a 2007 Maura Women Helping Women Award recipient from the Dallas Womens Museum and Southern Methodist University.
Cindy has been an active member of the Texas Council on Family Violence, serving on their Board of Directors and their Public Policy Committee. She has assisted in proposing and drafting legislation to assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and testified before the legislature regarding proposed bills.
Cindy has been an active member of the non-profit community in Dallas and was a weekly hotline volunteer for Genesis Womens Shelter from 1997 to 2007. |
