Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Tax Policy |
Eric Solomon was sworn in as Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy at the Department of the Treasury on December 12, 2006. He joined Treasury's Office of Tax Policy in October of 1999 as Senior Advisor for Policy. He subsequently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary (Tax Policy) and Deputy Assistant Secretary (Regulatory Affairs) prior to his December 2006 appointment as Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy. Mr. Solomon previously served at the Internal Revenue Service from 1991-1996 as Assistant Chief Counsel (Corporate), heading the IRS legal division with responsibility for all corporate tax issues, and as Deputy Associate Chief Counsel (Domestic Technical).
Mr. Solomon was a partner at Ernst & Young LLP, where he was a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Group of the National Tax Department in Washington, D.C. He practiced tax law at Cadwalader, Wickersham, & Taft in New York, and was a partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath in Philadelphia. Mr. Solomon received his A.B. degree from Princeton University, his J.D. degree from the University of Virginia, and his LL.M. in taxation from New York University. Before joining Treasury, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Tax Section of the New York State Bar Association. Mr. Solomon is an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University, where he teaches a course in corporate taxation. In 2006, he received the Distinguished Executive Presidential Rank Award in recognition of his exceptional career accomplishments as a Treasury executive. |
