Chief Counsel of the IRS

Most recently, B. John Williams was a partner at Shearman & Sterling. Previously, he was Chairman of the Tax Section at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. He was appointed to the United States Tax Court in 1985 by President Reagan and served until 1990. From 1984 to 1985, John was a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. He also served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General, U.S. Department of Justice, Tax Division, from 1983 to 1984. In addition, he served as Special Assistant to Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service from 1981 to 1983. B. John earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from George Washington University.
