Appointee Directory View:   Kim Kendrick -- Department of Housing and Urban Development Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Kim Kendrick serves as the Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity. The Senate confirmed her nomination on October 7, 2005. Ms. Kendrick is charged with administering federal fair housing laws and establishing national policies that mandate all Americans have equal access to the housing of their choice. Ms. Kendrick, formerly the Senior Counselor to the Secretary, advised and represented Secretary Alphonso Jackson on a wide variety of HUD programs, policies and strategies. Before joining the Bush administration, Ms. Kendrick was the General Counsel for Covenant House Washington, an international non-profit organization committed to helping and safeguarding homeless, runaway and at-risk youth. From 1998 to 2002, Ms. Kendrick became well versed in the full spectrum of housing issues while she served as a Regional Administrator for the District of Columbia Housing Authority. Ms. Kendrick was responsible for the administration and management of one-third of the Housing Authority’s inventory, which was comprised of approximately 2,500 public housing units, housing 10,000 residents and 150 employees. Prior to her time as Regional Administrator, Ms. Kendrick served, from 1995 to 1998, in various capacities of legal counsel to the District of Columbia Housing Authority. As General Counsel, Ms. Kendrick worked on a broad range of issues. Ms. Kendrick designed and staffed the Housing Authority’s Office of the General Counsel and its Office of Risk Management. Her counsel and work with the Housing Authority’s Receiver helped to remove the Housing Authority from HUD’s “troubled list.” As HUD’s Assistant General Counsel for Insured Housing and Community Development Litigation, from 1990 to 1995, Ms. Kendrick was responsible for nationwide federal court litigation involving challenges to HUD programs, policies and procedures. Ms. Kendrick provided agency offices counsel and advice concerning actual or potential litigation regarding, among other issues, FHA single and multifamily mortgage insurance programs and the Community Development Block Grant program. Ms. Kendrick, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, received her bachelor of arts in Sociology from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine and her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh Law School.
