Inspector General

Prior to his current service, Mr. Levinson was Inspector General of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). There he helped prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse in GSA programs, and promoted sound procurement activities and contract management government wide. A lawyer and a certified fraud examiner, Mr. Levinson became an Inspector General after a 25-year Washington-based career in private practice and government service. He previously served as Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management where his focus included new rules implementing the Ethics in Government Act and legal matters arising under the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program. As General Counsel of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Mr. Levinson provided advice on the Consumer Product Safety Act, the Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970, and the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. Mr. Levinson also has served as Chairman of the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board, and as Chief of Staff to a Member of Congress. In the private sector, he practiced employment law for more than a decade, representing mostly public and private sector management before Congress, the courts, and regulatory agencies. A native New Yorker, Mr. Levinson earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California, his J.D. from Georgetown University, and a master of laws degree from The George Washington University.
