Chip Groat -- Department of the Interior
Director of the U.S. Geological Survey

Prior to assuming his current position, Chip Groat served as Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Projects at the University of Texas at El Paso, following three years as Director of the Center for Environmental Resource Management. He was also Director of the University's Environmental Science and Engineering Ph.D. Program and a Professor of Geological Sciences. From 1992 to 1995, Chip served as Executive Director at the Center for Coastal, Energy, and Environmental Resources at Louisiana State University. He was Executive Director for the American Geological Institute from 1990 to 1992. From 1978 to 1990, he held positions at Louisiana State University and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. Chip graduated from the University of Rochester. He also holds a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Massachusetts and a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin.
