He attended Rice University from 1974 to 1978, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Master of Accounting degree. He became a certified public accountant in 1981 and held that certificate for approximately ten years. He attended the University of Texas School of Law from 1978 to 1980, graduating with high honors. He worked in Dallas, Texas for the law firm of Hughes & Luce LLP from 1980 to 1998 and for the law firm of Bracewell & Giuliani LLP from 1999 until joining the Bank. During this time he provided advisory and transactional services to scores of public and private companies, financial institutions, boards, corporate officers and investors relating to a wide variety of domestic and international business and financial transactions, including guiding corporate investigations into fraud and counseling boards in corporate governance and securities disclosure compliance matters. His clients included banks, insurance companies, information technology manufacturers and service providers, retailers, real estate developers and energy producers and service providers. A substantial element of his practice involved representing distressed and insolvent companies and their creditors in bankruptcy and restructuring matters. Mr. Tankersley served as chairman of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Texas during 1996 and 1997, and as Chairman of the Texas Business Law Foundation, an active representative of Texas business law interests before the Texas legislature, from 2000 to 2002. Since 2005 he has served as a member of the National Teaching Faculty of the National Association of Corporate Directors, providing in-boardroom governance training for directors of public companies across the United States. M r. Tankersley has also been active in civic, charitable and professional organizations, including the I Have a Dream Foundation-Dallas, Leadership Dallas and the American Bar Association.
