Administrator, Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration

On January 9, 2008, U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters announced Carl T. Johnson as the second Administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Mr. Johnson was nominated for the post by President Bush on Oct. 30 and received U.S. Senate confirmation on Dec. 19. Prior to joining the Department, Mr. Johnson served as a president of the Compressed Gas Association. Earlier in his career, Mr. Johnson served as special assistant to Representative Amory Houghton of New York and director of federal government relations at Corning Glass Works. Mr. Johnson received his bachelor's degree from Cornell University and his master's degree from The George Washington University. He and his wife, Joyce, reside in Virginia. They have two grown children.
