Paul Morrell -- NASA
Chief of Staff

Paul Morrell was named NASA's Chief of Staff by Administrator Mike Griffin on September 16, 2005. Before that, Morrell was a senior advisor to the administrator, helping develop, adopt, disseminate and implement a broad range of policies and activities in the furtherance of national research and development goals. Mr. Morrell possesses more than 24 years of experience in the legislative, government, and political arena. He came to NASA in April 2005 after having served as Director for Communications Planning for the National Security Council. In this position, Morrell was responsible for the formulation, presentation, coordination, and implementation of communication plans and strategies to inform the public about the Bush Administration’s foreign and national security policy initiatives and achievements. Prior to serving on the National Security Council, Morrell was Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Planning from January 2003 to February 2004 for the United States Department of Energy. Morrell served as an advisor to the Secretary of Energy on communication, policy, and management issues, and developed and executed department-wide projects and programs to promote key Bush Administration energy initiatives that reflected these goals. From 1983 to 2002 Morrell worked in a number of positions for several members of Congress. He began his legislative career as a Communications Specialist for U.S. Representative Andy Ireland (R-FL) and subsequently was Chief of Staff for U.S. Representative Robert Dornan (R-CA) and Washington Staff Director for U.S. Representative John Doolittle (R-Calif.). For eight of those years, from 1995-2002 he worked for House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) in a variety of senior positions, including: Administrative Assistant, Press Secretary, Director of Special Projects, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Chief of Staff. Mr. Morrell has a bachelor of science degree in journalism/public relations from the University of Maryland. He and his wife Candace have two daughters.
