Administration Announces Assistance for Reagan
National Airport
Washington, DC -- Office of Management and Budget Director
Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr., announced today a $25 million assistance package
for Reagan National Airport to redress losses during the closure period and
the reduction in flight schedules.
The assistance package compensates the Metropolitan Washington Airport
Authority's (MWAA) lost revenue from landing fees, rent and passenger
facility charges. The package will also provide compensation to concessionaires
for lost sales. In addition, as part of this assistance package we expect
that MWAA will provide rent forgiveness to concessionaires. These funds are
requested for release pursuant to the 15-day notification requirement outlined
in the Emergency Supplemental Act.
This assistance is the result of consultations with Senators Warner and Allen
and Representatives Davis, Wolf, and Moran. This payment underscores the
Federal commitment to Reagan National Airport. The Administration will continue
to work to ensure the viability of this airport.
