MEMORANDUM FOR THE HEADS OF SELECTED AGENCIES

FROM: Jacob J. Lew
Director
SUBJECT: Reporting Continued Progress Addressing the Year 2000 Problem

As you know, OMB is very interested in monitoring agency progress on Year 2000. Currently, the largest agencies report their progress to OMB on a quarterly basis. As we continue to monitor governmentwide compliance, I would like other selected agencies (See Attachment A) to make progress reports to OMB. OMB had asked several small and independent agencies to report on their progress in February. A summary of those reports was included in OMB’s March 18 report to the Congress, "Progress on Year 2000 Conversion." While the reports generally showed that excellent progress has been made during the past year, they also showed that much work remains to be done, including work to assure that mission critical systems will operate smoothly.

Therefore, I ask that all agencies listed in Attachment A continue to emphasize your agency’s efforts to address this problem and keep us informed of your progress on a quarterly basis. For your convenience, I have attached a copy of OMB M-99-09, "Revised Reporting Guidance on Year 2000 Efforts", issued on January 26, 1999 (Attachment B). Please provide a report by May 14 and provide quarterly updates thereafter, until notified otherwise.

Reports should be sent to:

Office of Management and Budget
OIRA Docket Library
NEOB 10102
725 17th Street, NW
Washington, DC 20503

Reports may also be faxed to 202-395-5806. Any questions regarding the process of submitting a report may be directed to Ms. Pamela Beverly, telephone 202-395-6881.

Again, thank you for your continued support in this critical effort. Working together, we can minimize the impact of this problem.
