Description: The New York Prosecutors Training Institute (NYPTI) and the New York State Police (NYSP) are partnering under this effort led by NYPTI to increase the number and improve the quality of high tech crime prosecutions in New York State. The following objectives are to be met under this award: 1) build NYSP forensic capacity to accelerate the handling and processing of computer/digital evidence that is increasingly used in the prosecution of criminal cases; 2) develop a mentoring program between NYSP and local police agencies to train officers on how to deal with computer evidence as a first responder; 3) provide prosecutors with legal assistance, technical support, and specialized training in cases involving computers and technology; 4) strengthen cyber crime investigative capability through technical support, best practices awareness, and state-of-the-art training and education; and 5) deliver investigative, forensic, and prosecutorial expertise through a network that connects the eight district attorneys, NYPTI, NYSP, and University of Albany.
