MRS. BUSH: Thank you very much, Governor. Thank you so much for welcoming me here at the Bamiyan. I'm so thrilled to have this chance to be here today with you and with all the people of Bamiyan.

The Bamiyan Bazaar Road is the second road project the United States has supported in Bamiyan during the past year. Bamiyan province has few roads, so every kilometer we build is important, because roads improve access to markets and official services.

Mrs. Bush traveled to Afghanistan to highlight the continued U.S. commitment to the country and its President Hamid Karzai. Congratulations to the people of Bamiyan for completing this project.

So today I'm happy to announce that the United States government is providing $778,000 to continue this road from here through the town center. This funding will support almost two kilometers of new road, improved drainage for the road, and a new traffic roundabout.

The United States is proud to be working in partnership with the people of Bamiyan, and your governor, and your other elected representatives to build new roads, and to spur economic growth. Thank you all very much for having me here, and thank you especially, Governor. Thank you all. (Applause.)
