Mrs. Bush's Remarks Before Participating in Education Roundtable
Thurber House
Columbus, Ohio

11:13 A.M. EDT

MRS. BUSH: Thanks, everyone, very much for joining us today for this roundtable. I want to thank all the press who have come out to hear it.

Our Secretary of Education, Margaret Spellings, can tell us more about it, but this week is celebrating Teachers Week around the United States. And the Department of Education leaders around the U.S. are having roundtables with teachers. This is the week for people to hear what teachers need - what they need and what they want from their government; what they need and want from their communities and parents, from everybody that should work and support teachers.

You know I'm a teacher, I'm a former teacher and I know how unbelievably satisfying the job of teaching is, but also how difficult it can be.

So I want to thank you all, I want to thank each one of you for helping kids learn and opening up the world to kids. I know that's what each of you do and that's one of the reasons you're here with us today for this roundtable. Thank you for that.

END 11:18 A.M. EDT
