Global Message

From remarks by President Bush with His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan, The Oval Office, 3/15/05

His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan understands the need for reform in the Middle East, and has a clear vision that the world needs to fight terror.

The United States views Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. President Bush hopes that Hezbollah will prove that they are not a terrorist organization by laying down arms and not threatening peace.

President Bush and King Abdullah discussed their concern that Hezbollah may try to derail the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.

It is very important that the peace process go forward for the sake of both the Palestinians and the Israelis, and for the sake of everyone in the region.

The United States has entered into trade negotiations with Jordan so commerce between our countries can flow better. It is much easier for reform to take place when there is prosperity.

President Bush believes peace is within hand in the Middle East. The United States government will continue to do what is necessary to help move the process forward.
