Emergency Broadcast Service Launched in Indonesia

A new emergency broadcast service is delivering urgent information to the people of Aceh, Indonesia. This system is getting information about food, water, and reconstruction to remote parts of the province. In addition, radio journalists are producing special programs on health, hygiene, reconstruction, child protection, and work programs. Stipends are encouraging journalists to go back to work, and special funding is going to the families of journalists killed in the tsunami. This emergency broadcast service is sponsored by Indonesian media and Internews, the American non-governmental organization, and grants from several foundations.
