U.S. Tsunami Aid in Indonisia Moves Into New Phase

The United States military has helped tsunami victims in Indonesia by flying more than 2,800 relief missions, giving medical attention to more than 2,200 people, and delivering 4,000 tons of supplies. The American government has provided more than $37 million to help the Indonesian people. Relief efforts are now shifting into long-term rebuilding and reconstruction. The USS Essex Expeditionary Strike Group and the hospital ship USNS Mercy remain in the area to continue to provide assistance for tsunami victims, but the USS Abraham Lincoln is departing the region. The United States is committed to helping Indonesia for as long as necessary to rebuild.
