Iraqi Justice Sector Reestablishing International Standards
Fact of the Day
The Iraqi Justice Sector is being rehabilitated. Through a two-year project started in January, the British Department for International Development and the International Legal Assistance Consortium is supporting the justice system, and is increasing independence, respect for human rights, and professionalism. So far, 216 judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and justice department officials - including several women - have attended training sessions on international law standards in Dubai. These courses underpin the restoration of the rule of law in Iraq by providing a foundation for a fair and effective justice system.
