U.S. and Philippines Honor World War II Heroes
On Veterans Day, the United States and the Republic of the Philippines jointly honored the services and sacrifices of their countrymen who served together in World War II. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Armed Forces of the Philippines held ceremonies November 11 at Philippine and American military cemeteries in Manila. As citizens of a U.S. Commonwealth at the time, more than 120,000 Filipinos fought bravely under the U.S. flag, and many died. The ceremonies are an important symbol of the close and enduring ties between the American and Philippine people.
