Honduras Is Landmine Free
Fact of the Day
Honduras has declared itself landmine free. The Central American nation has cleared more than 2,000 landmines from its border areas, and the Honduran government estimates that more than 67,000 families will now be able to settle and farm in these once dangerous places. The United States is proud to have been a partner in Honduras's efforts. Since 1995, the United States has given approximately $1 million to aid Honduran mine clearing operations and has provided operational and logistical support for landmine removal training.
