U.S. Trains Foreign Security Forces to Fight Terrorists
Fact of the Day
The United States' Anti-Terrorism Assistance program is helping nations detect, prevent, and prosecute terrorist activities. Approximately 45 Asian, African, and Middle Eastern nations that have suffered terrorist attacks have received training and equipment from the American program. The program has trained law enforcement officers in surveillance, crime scene investigation, and hostage negotiations. The program helps these countries, some of which recently abandoned authoritarian rule, to meet the challenges of fighting terrorism and reorient their security forces to function in a democracy.
