Americans Teach and Learn in Japan
Fact of the Day
Some 1,440 American college graduates and young professionals are participating in the 2004 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. Most participants will work as assistant language teachers in public elementary, junior high, and senior high schools across Japan. About 50 will serve as coordinators for international relations in local government offices. They will join 1,358 other Americans who have renewed contracts for an additional year in the JET Program, which has more than 6,000 participants from 41 countries this year. These exchanges provide an important way for Americans to learn about Japanese culture and for Japanese students to learn about America.
