U.S. Helps Fight HIV/AIDS in 14 Countries
Fact of the Day

Nearly 400,000 women in 14 countries have received assistance to prevent mother-to-child transmissions of HIV/AIDS. As President Bush reiterates, one of the best opportunities for progress against AIDS is to prevent mothers from passing on the HIV virus to their children. Funding from President Bush's initiative to fight HIV/AIDS has helped train 14,700 health workers and improve 900 health facilities in these 14 countries. Medical science gives the power to save young lives at risk of contracting AIDS, and with new funding, the United States is playing an important role in saving lives.
