Haiti Donor Conference Raises More Than $1 Billion
Fact of the Day
The United States will contribute $230 million over the next two years to help improve the lives of Haitian people. More than $1 billion was raised this week from 30 countries and 32 international organizations to support reform in Haiti. Haiti has suffered under a series of corrupt and authoritarian governments, and U.S. support will aid education, health, and nutrition to improve the daily lives of the Haitian people. Other components of the U.S. contribution will improve security, help in the planning of elections, and create new jobs. Support for reform in Haiti is an example of how America is supporting political and economic reform across the globe.
