U.S. Embassy in Yemen Helps Children with Cancer
Fact of the Day
On July 4th, 25 American Foreign Service Officers and local Yemeni employees of the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa helped complete the new children's cancer ward and waiting room at Republic Hospital. Assistance to the hospital continued an embassy tradition of celebrating American Independence Day by doing volunteer work in the community instead of taking the day off. The American and Yemeni volunteers painted pictures on the walls, hung figures, installed carpet, and built a playhouse. In the coming months, the embassy will purchase toys for children in the ward. All toys and materials were purchased with Embassy July 4th funds. This is a good example of how Americans living abroad contribute to their host countries.
