Global Message -- Special Edition

From remarks by President Bush with King Abdullah II of Jordan (5/6/04) and in an interview with Al Arabiya (5/5/04)

President Bush is the first President to have said the Palestinian people should have their own state. His vision of Israel and Palestine living side-by-side, and the establishment of a Palestinian state that is viable, contiguous, sovereign, and independent has not changed.

The road map is the best path to realizing the two-state vision, which is why it is endorsed by the Palestinians, Israel, the United Nations, the European Union, Russia, the United States, and many other nations.

President Bush wants Palestinians to have: A just peace; A prosperous country; A chance to realize their hopes and aspirations.

Israeli Prime Minister Sharon's bold plan to withdraw settlements from Gaza and parts of the West Bank can make a real contribution to peace, particularly if reform-minded Palestinians step forward and lead toward the establishment of a peaceful Palestinian state.

All final status issues must be negotiated between the parties in accordance with UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. The United States will not prejudice the outcome of those negotiations.
