Statement by the Press Secretary

President Bush will award the Medal of Freedom to NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson in a ceremony at the White House on November 12, 2003. Lord Robertson has overseen the most significant transformation of NATO in its history, bringing in seven new members and addressing the security challenges of a new era. He steps down as Secretary General in December, 2003.
