Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate three individuals to serve in his administration:

The President intends to nominate Linda Morrison Combs, of North Carolina, to be an Assistant Secretary of Transportation and upon confirmation, designate her Chief Financial Officer. Dr. Combs currently serves as Chief Financial Officer for the Environmental Protection Agency. She has previously served as Assistant Secretary for Management at the Department of the Treasury, and as Acting Associate Administrator for Management at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Combs earned her bachelor's degree and her master's degree from Appalachian State University. She went on to earn her Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

The President intends to nominate Steven J. Law, of the District of Columbia, to be Deputy Secretary of Labor. He currently serves as Chief of Staff at the Department of Labor. Earlier in his career, he served as the Chief Executive of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and as Counsel to the Chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee. Mr. Law is a graduate of the University of California, Davis, and he earned his law degree from Columbia University School of Law.

The President intends to nominate J. Robinson West, of the District of Columbia, to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the United States Institute of Peace, for the remainder of a four-year term expiring January 19, 2007.
