President Signs Legislation
Statement by the Press Secretary

On Thursday, July 3, 2003, the President signed into law:

H.R. 658, the Accountant, Compliance, and Enforcement Staffing Act of 2003, which authorizes the SEC to appoint candidates to accountant, economist, and securities compliance examiner positions in accordance with excepted service rules and provides that these positions would not, as a result, be converted from the competitive service.
