Nomination
President Bush to Nominate Roth to be Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of Guinea -Bissau

The President intends to nominate Richard Allan Roth to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. Mr. Roth has worked as Special Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs since July 2001, during which time he served for two months as the Charge d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe. From August 2000 to May 2001, he was the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. Mr. Roth was the Deputy Director for Southern African Affairs from 1990 to 1993. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the State Department's Superior Honor Award and the Presidential Meritorious Service Award. Roth has a B.A. degree in Literature from the University of Michigan.
