Michael Kozak
Senior Director for Democracy, Human Rights and International Organizations
National Security Council
In 2005, Michael Kozak joined the National Security Council as the Senior Director for Democracy, Human Rights and International Organizations. He formerly served as the Acting Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the Department of State.
Michael Kozak has been with the Department of State for more than 35 years and has held various positions that involve countries and regions all over the world. He served as Ambassador to Belarus from 2000-2003, and Special Negotiator for Haiti from 1993-1996. He has also served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, 2003-2004, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Inter-American Affairs, 1988-1991, and Principal Deputy Legal Adviser, 1985-1988.
