Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr.
Executive Secretary, U.S. Department of State
Harry K. Thomas, Jr. is the Executive Secretary of the U.S. Department of State. He previously served as ambassador to Bangladesh. Mr. Thomas served as Director for South Asia at the National Security Council from 2001 to 2002.
Mr. Thomas joined the Foreign Service in 1984 and has served in New Delhi, Harare, Kaduna, and Lima. He has also served as Senior Watch Officer, Deputy Director, and Director of the State Department Operations Center; Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs; and Staff Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for African Affairs.
