NATIONAL RECORDS AND ARCHIVES ADMINISTRATION

What is the National Records and Archives Administration (NARA)?
NARA develops records management regulations and provides guidance to Federal agencies on their responsibilities for records management under the Federal Records Act.

NARA is responsible for the Archives of the United States. This is where Federal records with continuing value that are no longer needed for agency business are transferred, maintained, and made available for research.

NARA assists the components of the Executive Office of the President that create Presidential records in meeting their records management responsibilities under the Presidential Records Act.

NARA administers Presidential libraries that are usually built following the end of Administrations.
