Gale A. Buchanan serves as Under Secretary of Agriculture for Research, Education and Economics. Previously, Dr. Buchanan was Dean and Director of Emeritus at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia. Earlier in his career, Dr. Buchanan served as Associate Director for the Georgia Agricultural Experiment Stations and Resident Director of the Coastal Plain Experiment Station. Dr. Buchanan served as a Colonel in the Alabama Army National Guard for over twenty-five years. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Florida. Dr. Buchanan went on to receive his PhD from Iowa State University.
