Carol Thompson
Former Director, White House Office of National AIDS Policy

Carol Thompson Carol J. Thompson is the former Director of the Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP). Ms. Thompson served as Acting Director of ONAP starting in August 2003. Ms. Thompson joined ONAP in November 2002 as Deputy Director, participating in the development and implementation of President Bush's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

As the Director of the Office of National AIDS Policy, Ms. Thompson led an AIDS office that is responsible for coordinating both domestic and international HIV/AIDS issues. Ms. Thompson worked with the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of State and other federal agencies to develop and coordinate HIV/AIDS policy and programs for the Administration.

Ms. Thompson's previous government experience at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative focused on health care and trade-related policy and legislative work.

Immediately prior to joining ONAP, she served in the White House in the Office of the Chief of Staff. Ms. Thompson has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Los Angeles.
