  2. BILL TITLE: Mychal Judge Police and Fire Chaplains Public Safety Officers' Benefit Act
  3. BILL PURPOSE: Adds police and fire chaplains to the list of individuals eligible for the Public Safety Officers' Benefits Program and allows life insurance beneficiaries to qualify as eligible survivors for death benefits if a public safety officer has no surviving spouse or child.
  4. OMB ESTIMATE: P.L.107-196 explicitly makes a new more broadly defined category of chaplains explicitly eligible for Public Safety Officers' Benefit Program benefits. In addition, the Act provides that, if a public safety officer has no surviving spouse or child, the individual designated in the officer's life insurance policy would receive the public safety officers' death benefits payment. The changes are made retroactive to September 11, 2001.
