Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate two individuals, appoint three individuals and designate one individual to serve in his Administration.

The President intends to nominate Patrick W. Dunne, of New York, to be Under Secretary for Benefits of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Mr. Dunne currently serves as Assistant Secretary (Policy and Planning) of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Prior to this, he served as President of the United States Naval Postgraduate School. Earlier in his career, he served as Commanding Officer of the USS Baltimore, SSN 704. Mr. Dunne received his bachelor's degree from the United States Naval Academy and his master's degree from the United States Naval Postgraduate School.

The President intends to nominate James A. Slutz, of Ohio, to be Assistant Secretary of Energy (Fossil Energy), and designate Acting. Mr. Slutz currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Oil and Natural Gas at the Department of Energy. Prior to this, he served as Director of the Division of Oil and Natural Gas for the State of Indiana. Earlier in his career, he served with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Mr. Slutz received his bachelor's degree and Master's in Business Administration from Ohio State University.

The President intends to appoint the following individuals to be Members of the Advisory Committee to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, for the remainder of three-year terms expiring 02/19/11:

B. Jackson Miller, of Connecticut, (Employee);
Dana M. Muir, of Michigan, (Public);
John J. Szczur, of Maryland, (Employee).
